Winnipeg Art Gallery
Art and education are at the heart of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Home to more than 23,000 works of art ranging from 15th-century European paintings to 21st century American multi-media art the Gallery exhibits art from Manitoba, Canada and around the world exposing people to the power of art. The WAG is also home to the largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art in the world and is working to build an Inuit Art Centre to more fully showcase the collection with the community.
“The WAG has started a capital campaign to build the Inuit Art Centre to house exhibitions, research, studio practice and art-making of Inuit Art,” says Mike Malyk, HR Director at the WAG. “The Centre will offer a unique opportunity to build strong relationships between people in the North and the South and to learn about Inuit and Canadian history.”
Job opportunities in education are at the forefront for the WAG. Team members provide art programming and tours for the public, school and youth groups. Bilingualism and multilingualism are always an asset. Outside of education, a wide variety of employment opportunities exist at the WAG, from contracting positions in carpentry for shelf, cabinet, and display-making, to research, curating, accounting, marketing, and more
“We’re always looking for people who have a passion to see the not for profit arts community grow in Manitoba,” says Malyk. “Along with the ability to go to the galleries and find art that inspires me, the best thing about working here is the variety and passion of the people we have the opportunity to work with. You don’t necessarily have to be an artist or be educated in art, but every single person who works here has a passion to be here.”
